Dear Friends of the EBC,<\/p>\n

The\u00a022\u00a0EBC committees<\/strong>\u00a0are made of European companies, members of\u00a0the 15 national Chambers of Commerce which are stakeholders of the EBC<\/a>. They monitor the Japanese market, work on non-tariff barriers issues to produce the\u00a0EBC White Paper<\/a><\/u>, meet with ministries, lawmakers and various organisations, and set up events.<\/p>\n

On 30 May<\/strong>, during the last\u00a0EBC Sustainability Committee meeting<\/strong><\/a>,\u00a0three speakers were invited:\u00a0Gabriele Lo-Monaco of DG Trade<\/strong>\u00a0gave a presentation on the latest activities and policies of the European Commission, with a particular focus on the Green Deal and its components.\u00a0Sarah Herman, of Codo Advisory<\/strong>, presented her findings on the implications of the EU-Japan EPA for sustainable trade and development. She also went through the provisions in the agreement related to sustainability.\u00a0Roisin Neville,\u00a0from\u00a0Oxford University<\/strong>, spoke about the EU-Japan relationship when it comes to climate policy and sustainability. She also looked into the trade flows in goods that support the greening of the economies.<\/p>\n

On 31 May<\/strong>, the\u00a0EBC Railway Committee<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0met\u00a0with the Railway Technical Research Institute (RTRI)<\/strong>\u00a0facilities in Kunitachi. In addition to a short discussion on the trends within standardisation, RTRI also showcased the various research and testing being done at the facilities.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0EBC Food and Agriculture Committee<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0will hold a meeting on\u00a021 June<\/strong>\u00a0from 16:00 at the EBC. It covers the most common regulatory\u00a0issues that European food and agriculture companies meet on the Japan\u00a0market such as food additives, duplicate testing, unique standards,\u00a0tariffs and food packaging<\/strong> to mention but a few.
\nIf you are a European food company or an importer of European food, do\u00a0come to our meeting, add your issues to the discussion and learn from\u00a0others. Perhaps also formally join the committee!\u00a0To register, send an email to\u00a0ebc@ebc-jp.com<\/a><\/p>\n

Let me also\u00a0share with you two events :<\/p>\n

–\u00a0 The\u00a0Tax and regulations’ committee of the French Chamber of Commerce<\/strong> is organising\u00a0an\u00a0event on the\u00a0\u201cStrategic Plan for FDI in Japan \u2013 new opportunities for foreign investors in Japan<\/strong><\/a>\u201d<\/strong> (8 June).\u00a0Mr.Nagai from Kantei will\u00a0present the action plan of the Japanese Government dated 26 April 2023.<\/p>\n

–\u00a0 The EU-Japan Centre for Industrial Cooperation <\/strong>will hold an event on\u00a0\u201cThe Strategy of Resource-Autonomous Circular Economy for Growth<\/strong><\/a>\u201d (15 June)<\/p>\n
