The past week was filled with diverse activities for the EBC, ranging from industry-focused seminars to high-level policy discussions and international business forums. Mobility\u2019s Neural Shift: Success Stories & Strategic Debate – 17 September<\/strong><\/p>\n

Organised by the <\/strong>EBC Automotive Components Committee\u00a0in collaboration with the<\/strong> German Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Japan (AHK Japan) and the Swiss Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Japan (SCCIJ), the seminar brought together leaders from OEMs, Tier 1suppliers, and tech companies to explore how AI is transforming the automotive sector.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Inspiring keynotes by Momday Dok (Founder, GCDee) and\u00a0Stefan Gspurning\u00a0(GM, Connected Car Services & SDV, Nissan) set the stage with perspectives on AI applications in mobility.
\nTwo lively panel discussions followed, highlighting success stories, risks, and the organizational changes needed to become truly\u00a0AI-ready.
\nThe evening concluded with networking over buffet and drinks, giving participants the chance to\u00a0exchange ideas and build new connections across the mobility ecosystem.<\/p>\n

The<\/strong> EBC<\/strong> meets with European Commissioner Michael McGrath – 17 September<\/strong><\/p>\n

European Commissioner for\u00a0Democracy, Justice, the Rule of Law, and Consumer Protection,<\/strong> Michael McGrath, was in Japan for discussions with the Japanese Government and also visited the\u00a0Osaka Expo. During the meeting with the EBC, the Commissioner addressed topics such as\u00a0data protection, data flows, and consumer protection, with particular attention to the inflow of\u00a0small parcels. He also highlighted ongoing work and discussions aimed at broadening the existing agreement on data protection.<\/strong><\/p>\n

From the EBC side, views were shared on\u00a0GDPR, Japan\u2019s progress in digitalisation, and economic security, particularly in the areas of\u00a0AI and cloud services. It was noted that Japan remains heavily dependent on foreign providers in these fields, which raises concerns from an economic security perspective.<\/p>\n

The meeting concluded with the Commissioner kindly stating that he would welcome any input from\u00a0European industry in Japan\u00a0with open arms.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Japanese-Hungarian Business Forum – 17 September, co-hosted by the Japan Business Federation (Keidanren) and the Embassy of Hungary<\/strong><\/p>\n

The forum highlighted innovative Hungarian companies in sectors like ICT, Smart City solutions, Digital Transformation, and more, providing valuable opportunities for future collaboration between Japanese and Hungarian businesses.<\/p>\n

The automotive industry is now competing on two fronts\u00a0for increasingly value-conscious customers: electrification and software\u2011defined, connected mobility. Advantage increasingly hinges on mastery of the enabling stack\u00a0\u2013\u00a0the e\u2011powertrain, semiconductors, power electronics, and beyond. Early movers are converting gains in productivity, time\u2011to\u2011market, and customer experience; others remain in pilot mode, constrained by an unwillingness to take risks, economic constraints, and operating\u2011model readiness.<\/p>\n
