\u201cInvestment in Ukraine: Opportunities for Japanese & EU Businesses\u201d Forum, 25 September<\/strong><\/p>\n

On 25 September, the EBC supported and attended the forum organized by the UCCJ Japan-Ukraine (Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce in Japan), an EBC stakeholder, and the EU-Japan Centre for Industrial Cooperation.<\/p>\n

The forum covered:
\n\u2022 New investment rules, incentives, and regulatory trends in Ukraine
\n\u2022 Opportunities in industrial parks and regional development
\n\u2022 Innovation in digital, defense & dual-use technologies<\/p>\n

The networking reception proved invaluable as it allowed the EBC to connect with Japanese, EU, and Ukrainian leaders, to exchange ideas and to explore potential partnerships.<\/p>\n

EBC at YIES Lecture on Ethical Capitalism, Tokyo, 26 September<\/strong><\/p>\n

The President of the EBC Board, Laurent Depus, attended the Yomiuri International Economic Society (YIES) Lecture at the Imperial Hotel, featuring Prof. Markus Gabriel of the University of Bonn.<\/p>\n

In his talk, \u201cAuthoritarian vs. Ethical Capitalism?\u201d, Gabriel warned that \u201cauthoritarian capitalism is coming, but it\u2019s not there yet,\u201d<\/em> outlining demagogic and bureaucratic forms.<\/p>\n

He also reinterpreted Adam Smith\u2019s \u201cinvisible hand\u201d as a call for sympathy and ethical values, not a market law. Gabriel urged business leaders to \u201clead not just in markets but in values,\u201d<\/em> stressing that ethics must guide choices such as the shift to renewable energy.<\/p>\n

His message of ethical capitalism resonated strongly with the EBC\u2019s mission of promoting responsible, value-driven economic engagement in Japan.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

The automotive industry is now competing on two fronts\u00a0for increasingly value-conscious customers: electrification and software\u2011defined, connected mobility. Advantage increasingly hinges on mastery of the enabling stack\u00a0–\u00a0the e\u2011powertrain, semiconductors, power electronics, and beyond. Early movers are converting gains in productivity, time\u2011to\u2011market, and customer experience; others remain in pilot mode, constrained by an unwillingness to take risks, economic constraints, and operating\u2011model readiness.<\/p>\n

In collaboration with the EBC, McKinsey will take stock of where Japan and global industry incumbents stand, share benchmark practices from the front line, and unpack what it takes to win in the global race towards electrification and smartification \u2013 spanning capital allocation, partnerships and M&A, and capability building across software and silicon.<\/strong>\u00a0We will connect strategy to execution along the value chain, with a specific lens on the component\u2019s ecosystem.<\/p>\n
