The European Business Council serves as a platform for fostering dialogue, collaboration, and advocacy between Europe and Japan. Acting as a bridge for European industry within Japan\u2019s complex regulatory landscape, the EBC engages with key ministries, promotes forward-looking discussions, and connects European and Japanese stakeholders to strengthen trade and industrial competitiveness.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n\n\n\n

The EBC meets with MOFA and METI<\/strong><\/p>\n

On 8 October, the EBC management (Board President Laurent Depus, Chief Operating Officer Valerie Moschetti, Chief Policy Director Bjorn Kongstad) and EBC Defence Committee Chair Nikolaus Boltze met with representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI).
\nMOFA was represented by Director Takeshi Koyama and Director Chihiro Mochizuki, and METI by Director Toshiyuki Shirai.<\/p>\n

The meeting was an excellent opportunity to exchange views on how to further strengthen Europe Japan cooperation, including in areas of shared strategic interest such as defence and industrial competitiveness.
\nThe EBC looks forward to continuing this constructive dialogue with both ministries in support of closer partnership between Europe and Japan.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Quo Vadis Automotive – Competing for the Future of Mobility<\/strong><\/p>\n

On\u00a09 October, the EBC Automotive Components Committee\u00a0organized an executive seminar in collaboration with McKinsey & Company at McKinsey\u2019s\u00a0IoT Center\u00a0in Roppongi.<\/p>\n

The session brought together industry leaders to discuss how Japanese and global automotive powerhouses are competing in the race for new technologies, from\u00a0electrification\u00a0to smartification, and how they are adapting to increasingly value\u2011conscious customers in an uncertain global environment.<\/p>\n

Discussions highlighted how advantage in the automotive sector is shifting toward those who can master the\u00a0enabling technology stack – from\u00a0e\u2011powertrains\u00a0and\u00a0semiconductors\u00a0to\u00a0power electronics\u00a0and\u00a0software\u2011defined mobility – while strengthening\u00a0resilience to cope with supply chain disruptions and market volatility. Early movers are already turning technological strength into gains in\u00a0productivity,\u00a0speed, and\u00a0customer experience, supported by strategic\u00a0partnerships, smart\u00a0capital allocation, and\u00a0capability building\u00a0across the value chain.<\/p>\n

Empowering Women to Lead & Launch – Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands<\/strong><\/p>\n

On 9 October, the EBC was honoured to take part in\u00a0“Empowering Women to Lead & Launch”\u00a0alongside two of our Committee Chairs, Tobias Schiebe and St\u00e9fan Le D\u00fb, both actively driving initiatives on gender diversity and women\u2019s empowerment within their committees.<\/p>\n

Hosted at the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, this inspiring programme gathered women entrepreneurs, corporate leaders, and innovators to share strategies, exchange experiences, and discuss solutions to break barriers in leadership, entrepreneurship and innovation.
\nFrom tackling workforce challenges to unleashing women\u2019s talents, the discussions highlighted how empowering women drives sustainable growth, fosters inclusive trade, and sparks new collaborations across borders.<\/p>\n

2025 Kyushu Industrial Tour – Promoting Global Collaboration in Japan\u2019s Innovation Hub<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Kyushu Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI Kyushu) has announced the details of this year\u2019s\u00a0Industrial Tour in Kyushu, an initiative designed to strengthen cooperation between foreign companies and local industries while showcasing the region\u2019s growing innovation ecosystem.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s program, scheduled for\u00a0Thursday, 27 November (8:00 – 18:15), will take participants to\u00a0Kitakyushu City (Fukuoka Prefecture), a well-known center of advanced manufacturing and technology. The tour will highlight local\u00a0Digital Transformation\u00a0and\u00a0robotics\u00a0companies that are tackling challenges in production and services through\u00a0AI integration. Participants will also visit the\u00a0Kyushu Institute of Technology, where on-site demonstrations will provide valuable insights into the region\u2019s cutting-edge developments.
