Dear Friends of the EBC,<\/p>\n

We are delighted to confirm the election of Nikolaus Boltze as the new President of the European Business Council in Japan, effective from 1\u202fJanuary\u202f2026.<\/strong> Nikolaus is already a respected member of our organisation, and below you will find a brief overview to help you get to know him better. Meanwhile, our current President, Laurent Depus, will continue to lead the EBC until 31\u202fDecember\u202f2025.<\/p>\n

In an ever\u2011changing global environment, the EBC remains committed to fostering dialogue, promoting collaboration, and championing the voice of European business in Japan. Over the past week, we have attended key events that bring together business leaders and policymakers to exchange views on leadership, innovation and economic resilience. We also look forward to our upcoming Government Relations committee meeting on 17\u202fNovember, which will delve into Japan\u2019s evolving political\u2011economic landscape and what it means for our member companies.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n\n\n\n

Appointment of New EBC Board President, Effective 1 January 2026<\/strong><\/p>\n

The European Business Council in Japan has completed its presidential election process on 12\u202fNovember and is pleased to announce the appointment of Nikolaus Boltze as its new President.<\/p>\n

Currently serving as Country Representative for<\/strong>\u00a0thyssenkrupp<\/strong>\u00a0AG in Japan, Nikolaus brings extensive leadership experience and a profound strategic understanding of Europe-Japan business relations.<\/strong>\u00a0At the EBC, he has already contributed significantly through his involvement in several committees, most notably as Chair of the Aeronautics, Space, Defence & Security Committee.<\/p>\n

In addition to his EBC roles, he is also actively involved in the EU-Japan Business Round Table, where he represents his company on the European side in high-level policy discussions with Japanese and European authorities. With his blend of corporate leadership, committee stewardship and cross\u2011border policy engagement, Nikolaus is ideally positioned to guide the EBC\u2019s strategic direction.<\/p>\n

The EBC wishes to thank Laurent Depus for his dedicated leadership, which will continue until 31 December 2025, ahead of the transition to Nikolaus Boltze as President in January 2026.<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Nikkei Forum 2025 Global Management Dialogue<\/strong> \u2013 4-5 November<\/p>\n

The EBC attended the Nikkei Forum 2025 Global Management Dialogue in Tokyo, a truly meaningful experience. The discussions focused on how profound uncertainty and geopolitical shifts are reshaping today\u2019s business landscape, with leaders exploring new strategies and innovative responses for navigating constant disruption.<\/p>\n

French Japanese Business Summit 2025<\/strong> – 6 November<\/p>\n

The EBC was honoured to participate in the French Japanese Business Summit 2025, organised by the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Japan.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s theme, \u201cJapan Dream: Building Optimism in Unpredictable Times,\u201d<\/strong> offered valuable insights into how France and Japan can foster innovation, sustainability, and economic resilience through stronger collaboration.<\/p>\n

The EBC was delighted to engage with members of the French business community \ud83c\uddeb\ud83c\uddf7\ud83c\uddef\ud83c\uddf5 and to exchange views on shared priorities and opportunities for deeper cooperation between Europe and Japan.<\/p>\n

EBC Government Relations Committee\u00a0meeting with <\/strong>Professor Kazuto Suzuki<\/strong><\/a> – 17 November (12:30-14:00)<\/p>\n

Japan now has a new government, a historic first female prime minister, and a new coalition few could have imagined just months ago. Prime Minister\u00a0Sanae Takaichi\u00a0has made a strong start, with a successful visit by President Trump and her diplomatic debut at the ASEAN and APEC summits. But what does\u00a0\u201cJapan is back\u201d\u00a0really mean for us, and what can we expect from this new LDP-Ishin coalition?<\/p>\n

To help us understand these developments, our Government Relations committee is pleased to welcome\u00a0Professor Kazuto Suzuki<\/strong><\/a>, Director of the\u00a0Institute of Geoeconomics\u00a0and Professor at the\u00a0University of Tokyo\u2019s Graduate School of Public Policy.
