The past week once again highlighted the European Business Council in Japan\u2019s role as a trusted platform for dialogue, expertise, and cooperation at the intersection of business, policy, and regulation. Legal & Regulatory Insights at the EU Delegation<\/strong><\/p>\n

On 10 February<\/strong>, the EBC organised a high-level Legal Services Committee event at the EU Delegation to Japan.<\/p>\n

Introduced by Tony Andriotis, EBC Committee Chair, and moderated by Bonnie Kong, the panel discussion \u201cPractical Insights for In-House Counsel: EU and Japan Perspectives on Global Regulatory Trends\u201d delivered concrete, practice-oriented exchanges on evolving compliance requirements, regulatory convergence, and cross-border risk management.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Speakers highlighted the growing complexity of the global regulatory environment, including developments in digital governance, data protection, competition law, and broader compliance frameworks. Practical challenges faced by in-house counsel were discussed, notably managing multi-jurisdictional compliance requirements, navigating EU-Japan regulatory alignment and divergence, and anticipating regulatory changes driven by geopolitical and economic security considerations. The exchanges also underscored the importance of early dialogue with regulators, internal governance alignment, and cross-border legal coordination to mitigate risks and ensure business continuity.<\/p>\n

Meeting with the Swedish Ambassador<\/strong><\/p>\n

On 17 February, the EBC, led by its President Nikolaus Boltze, met with the Ambassador of Sweden, Viktoria Li, First Secretary, Trade and Economic Affairs Karolina <\/strong> Johannesson and Trade Commissioner Japan at Business Sweden Carsten Gronblad for a constructive exchange on current economic and geopolitical developments.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Discussions highlighted opportunities for closer cooperation in the defence industry, particularly in strengthening industrial partnerships and resilient supply chains. Economic security was also a key focus, reflecting the growing interconnection between trade, technology, and security policy. The EBC reaffirmed its readiness to support Swedish stakeholders through expert input and targeted briefings.<\/p>\n

Launch of the EBC Gender Equality Forum<\/strong><\/p>\n

The EBC is pleased to announce the launch of its Gender Equality Forum<\/strong>, a new inter-committee initiative co-led by the Sustainability & Social Responsibility Committee (Chair: St\u00e9fan Le D\u00fb) and the HR Committee (Chair: Tobias Schiebe).<\/p>\n

The kick-off session will feature a \u201cGender Equity Collage\u201d<\/strong> workshop, developed in Europe and adapted to the Japanese context, and facilitated by the Ichigo Bloom collective. Using a visual and collaborative approach, participants will explore stereotypes and systemic drivers of gender equity in the workplace.<\/p>\n

This initiative aims to foster peer exchange, share best practices, and generate concrete input for the EBC\u2019s 2026 Roadmap and White Paper.<\/strong><\/p>\n
