About a month ago, Prime Minister Suga announced that the country will be carbon-neutral by 2050. The European Commission also made similar declarations when it was newly established in the Spring of 2020. On the corporate side, various projects have been launched and several are in the pipeline that will support and make it possible to achieve these targets.

The EBC is pleased to invite you to attend the last EBC Briefing of the year, focused on De-carbonization, with speakers from our Energy, Asset Management, Airline and Aeronautics Committees, the EU Delegation and METI. You will be able to attend it online, on 10 December from 4:00pm.

In the same line, on 8 December, the EU-Japan Centre for Industrial Cooperation will hold a Roundtable on “Kyoto Protocol, Paris Agreement and beyond”, in which speakers from Europe and Japan will illustrate what the Paris Agreement has changed for them and their organizations, and will explore together the path towards net zero emission in 2050.

These first 5 years of existence of the Paris Agreement were only the beginning: a lot remains to be done to keep the planet under 1.5°C by the end of the century. The EU and Japan now both aim at an ambitious but necessary intermediary goal: reaching carbon neutrality by 2050.

During this conference livestreamed from Doshisha University in Kyoto, in the birth city of the Kyoto Protocol, speakers from Europe and Japan will illustrate what the Paris Agreement has changed for them and their organizations. They will also explore together the path towards net zero emission in 2050, through the examples of public policies, business initiatives, youth engagement, science and international cooperation.

The latest change is a simplification of our Sponsorships scheme.

From 2021, you will have the opportunity to select among 6 categories of sponsorships. Depending on the category, the Sponsor will get:

• Free Membership to the EBC and participation to all EBC sectoral committees;

• His logo/name in the EBC White Paper;
• His company banner/information material/keynote speaker at the EBC Briefings;
• His company name listed in EuroBiz Japan (EBC monthly magazine).

This year’s White Paper is called “Strengthening partnerships – in crisis and opportunity alike” . The opportunity is of course referring to the EU-Japan EPA that entered into force on February 1, 2019. Unfortunately, at the same time the COVID -19 crisis struck the world.

We are, however, confident that with our recommendations, the European and Japanese economies and companies will continue to prosper.
