EBC Newsletter – December 7, 2022

From the EBC

Dear Friends of the EBC,

The EBC committees are made of European companies. They monitor the Japanese market, work on non-tariff barriers to produce the EBC White Paper, meet with ministries and various organizations and set up events for their members.

On 1 February 2023, the EBC Legal Service Committee will organise an event. With recent disruptions to the global economy, corporations throughout the world are seeking creative new ways to grow profits and revenue. The EU and its member states have been at the forefront of addressing this emphasis on “the bottom line” in a socially responsible manner. Join us in discussing the importance of ESG in global commerce, and ways in which laws, regulations, and corporate governance can be utilized in enhancing more than just balance sheets. Attention will be placed on the global supply chain, shifts in market dynamics, and recent regional experiences with tackling the COVID epidemic.
Save the date, more information on exact time and venue will follow!

The 11th edition of the Nippon Export Award, organized by the Belgian-Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce in Japan under the high auspices of the governments of Belgium and Luxembourg, is a biennial award attributed to a successful company exporting, importing or distributing Belgian-Luxembourg products or services into or from Japan. This year, the award went to AppTweak, a fast-growing Brussels-based company with offices in San Francisco, Bengaluru, Tokyo, Singapore, and Seoul. The Award Ceremony will be held at the Embassy of Belgium in Japan on 13 December 2022.

We hope you stay positive and healthy during this period.

  • The government and ruling parties are planning to extend Japan’s tax reduction for owners of eco-friendly vehicles beyond the current end date of April, as semiconductor shortages have delayed the delivery of purchased cars, sources close to the matter said.
Automakers and the industry ministry have requested a one-year extension but details have yet to be worked out, the sources said. (Japan Today)
  • The government is considering allowing companies to recruit new university graduates with high levels of expertise under a more flexible hiring schedule, starting with those graduating in spring 2026, according to informed sources.
Under current rules, companies can start offering job information in March to university students slated to graduate a year later. They can start their selection processes in June and begin giving informal job offers in October. (The Japan News)
