From the EBC

Dear Friends of the EBC,

Over the past week, we’ve had meaningful discussions and productive interactions focused on enhancing connections between European and Japanese businesses. Here’s a look back at some of our recent activities.

The EBC Meets with Chiba Prefecture on Investment and Innovation

On 19 February, the EBC had the pleasure of hosting representatives from Chiba Prefecture for an insightful discussion on fostering foreign investment and business growth. Chiba Prefecture showcased its dynamic initiatives, including the expansion of Narita Airport, which aims to enhance both infrastructure and regional connectivity, creating new business opportunities. Additionally, the prefecture is emerging as a hub for cancer research, with a growing cluster that includes the University of Tokyo and leading private companies driving innovation in the field.
We look forward to further collaboration to strengthen ties and support investment in this vibrant region.

The event concluded with an informal networking reception, providing attendees with the opportunity to connect and exchange ideas.

Mie Prefecture Seminar for Foreign Companies

On 21 February, the EBC participated in an investment promotion seminar hosted by Mie Prefecture. Governor Katsuyuki Ichime provided an overview of Mie’s economy, emphasizing its status as a premier manufacturing hub and its commitment to supporting foreign investment through government incentives. Seiichiro Inoue, Deputy Director-General for Policy Coordination at METI, outlined Japan’s broader economic strategies, highlighting Mie’s strategic location, skilled workforce, and advanced infrastructure as key advantages for foreign enterprises.
Following the presentations, attendees had the opportunity to network over a complimentary buffet featuring renowned local delicacies. This informal setting allowed participants to engage with government officials and business representatives, fostering potential collaborations and partnerships.

Lithuania National Day Celebration

On 25 February, the EBC had the honor of attending the National Day Reception of the Republic of Lithuania, marking the 107th anniversary of the restoration of the Lithuanian state and the 35th anniversary of its reestablished independence. This year’s celebration also paid tribute to the Year of Artist Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis, a renowned Lithuanian composer and painter.
The event featured inspiring speeches by distinguished guests, including the EU Ambassador, the Ambassador of Lithuania, the Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, and the Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Defense.
