What’s in the Media

  • The Economy, Trade and Industry Ministry is aiming to have the auto industry use renewable-sourced electricity for about 60% of its energy consumption by fiscal 2030. The target is based on the revised Law on Rational Use of Energy, which will come into effect next April. The ministry plans to present the target ratio at a soon-to-be-held meeting of experts, with an eye to accelerating corporate efforts to decarbonize the industry. (The Japan News)

  • Major real estate firm Mitsubishi Estate Co. and plant operator JGC Holdings Corp. have reached a basic agreement to cooperate in the collection of waste cooking oil for use in producing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), which has been touted as a means to significantly reduce carbon dioxide emissions, it has been learned. (The Japan News)

  • Japan plans to resume public auctions for offshore wind power projects in December under revised rules aimed at encouraging a wider range of operators and accelerating the development of infrastructure, the industry ministry said on Tuesday. (The Japan Times)
