Dear Friends of the EBC,
On 2 September 2022, the EBC issued a statement on the Japanese public tendering system for offshore wind. It was handed over to the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Labour and Tourism, and some selected Japanese politicians. The EBC believes transparency is important to result in a competitive system that will give every player equal access to the market. This will, in turn, provide Japan the best opportunity to fulfil the carbon neutrality goal by 2050.
On the same day, we met Nippon Keidanren Chairman, Mr. Masakazu Tokura. This meeting was an opportunity to present the latest activities of the EBC, to hand over the latest digital White Paper and to convey gratitude to Keidanren for its advocacy for relaxed border measures. Just as the EBC, Keidanren continues to advocate for open borders in Japan.
On this subject, Japan is revising from today its border measures to open up for multiple entry short-term visas. Previously, it was only possible to apply for single entry short-term visas. Please note that the revision is only applicable for nationalities that are covered by visa exemptions under normal circumstances. Be assured that the EBC continues to advocacy for further relaxation for business travelers such as digital visas, and ultimately the removal of a need for a pre-departure visa for business people.
Lastly, let me share with you information about 3 events:
-It is still time to register for the EBC / ACCJ / CCCJ Golf Tournament that will be held on 14 October, a great opportunity for more than 20 years to network with various businesspeople!
-In July, the EBC organised a Briefing on the Economic Security Act. As a follow up, I would like to draw your attention to the conference (on site and online) organised by the EU-Japan Centre on “EU-Japan Industrial cooperation for economic security and strategic autonomy” on 21 September.
– On 19 October, the German Chamber of Commerce in Japan is holding its first edition of AHK Japan Sustainable Business Award launched on the occasion of AHK Japan’s 60th anniversary.
We hope you stay positive and healthy during this difficult time.
