From the EBC

Dear Friends of the EBC,

On 16 November in the afternoon, the EBC Automotive Components and Aftermarket Committee will organise a Digital Summit that will bring together industry, policy, and advocacy leaders of the Japanese and European Automotive Industry. Expanding and building on our speakers’ keynotes, we’ll discuss the industry’s future against the backdrop of an accelerated pace of digitalisation and increasingly feeble markets. What factors are tying our markets together? Is more collaboration among both stakeholders and geographies an avenue to future success? Best practices and insights will be shared leading to a panel discussion. Further information is coming soon, save the date in your agenda if you are interested!

On 3 September, the EBC management met with Greg Lebedev and Catherine Tai from the Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE), a non-profit organisation that works to strengthen democracy and promote market-oriented economic reform around the world. Areas of focus include democratic governance, business advocacy, anti-corruption, trade facilitation, women’s economic empowerment, and youth initiatives. CIPE is currently active in more than 80 countries.

I would also like to draw your attention to two pieces of information that might be of interest to you:

The EBC team is looking forward to hearing from you soon,

Valerie Moschetti

What’s in the Media

  • Prime Minister Fumio Kishida announced Tuesday the government’s plan to commercialize next-generation solar panels, made of “perovskite-type” cells, by 2025. Perovskite solar cells are thin, lightweight and flexible. They can be installed to fit the shape of car roofs and are expected to be used in electric vehicles. (The Japan News)
  • The Group of Seven nations plan to create a new framework in October for a fund to expand and diversify supply chains in the decarbonization sector, such as for solar panels, according to sources. The Japanese government plans to contribute $5 million (about ¥750 million) to the envisaged fund to be created at the World Bank, they said. (The Japan News)
  • The government is considering offering tax breaks for companies that invest in strategically important sectors such as semiconductors and storage batteries, in a push to boost Japan’s growth potential and ensure economic security, according to an outline unveiled Wednesday. (The Mainichi)
