From the EBC

Dear Friends of the EBC,

Today, the main concern for a large part of the foreign community in Japan is the entry ban for non-Japanese nationals. It creates inequal treatment between Japanese citizens and long-term or permanent residents, has negative economic impacts on foreign businesses and produces uncertainties regarding future weeks and months, as many questions remain unanswered.

Embassies and national Chambers of Commerce have been very active on this matter, and so has the EBC. We held a well-attended webinar on Friday, June 19th and a press conference at the FCCJ on June 22nd.

The main features in today’s Newsletter are:

  • A summary of the FFCJ press conference;
  • The announcement of a webinar on “COVID-19 & Digitalisation of Society”;
  • Information from JETRO about incentive programmes related to investments to strengthen the supply chain in Japan.

We wish you a good reading and hope you stay positive and healthy during this difficult time.

EBC Conference at the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Japan on Relaxing Entry Ban in Japan for non-Japanese Nationals

On Monday, June 22nd, Mr. Michael Mroczek, President of the European Business Council in Japan (EBC), gave a press conference at the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Japan on “Relaxing Entry Ban in Japan”.

You can also watch the conference on the FCCJ website.

Webinar on “COVID-19 & Digitalisation of Society”

Digitalisation will play a central role in recovering from the crisis wrought by COVID-19. Already during the crisis, digital solutions, including enabling people to work and learn remotely, helped reduce the adverse impact of the pandemic and helped many businesses stay open. COVID-19 has shown that digital technologies are essential to the functioning of today’s global economy and underline their transformational potential. But digital technologies are also generating new policy issues. Policy makers in Japan and the EU need to ensure that the infrastructure, the connectivity and the regulations are in place to respond to the coronavirus and to keep people active and safe online. In this webinar, European and Japanese experts will share views about the role of digitalisation for the recovery and how they can contribute to a green recovery by addressing topics such as data governance and privacy, digital innovation or the interoperability of digital services between the EU and Japan.

Date: Thursday, July 2nd 2020, 4:30pm-6:00pm

White Paper Sponsorships

The European Business Council in Japan specializes in Japanese government relations and public affairs. Among our various services, the EBC White Paper is by far the most important document that we annually produce.

The White Paper is read by not only Japanese authorities, but also by the various European embassies and the EU Delegation. Its recommendations to the Japanese government in 25 economic sectors are a useful tool for European businesses to advocate on various problems they encounter on – or to access to – the Japanese market.

We are therefore hoping that we can get the resources that are needed to print, translate and distribute this White Paper, something that has been done now for 20 years.

We would be very glad if you could support our work on improving better economic relations between the EU and Japan through one of OUR VARIOUS SPONSORSHIP PROGRAMMES.

Thank you in advance for your precious contribution.
