Dear Friends of the EBC,
The report of our survey on “The impact of the (re-)entry ban to Japan on European companies” is ready: 376 European companies from 16 European countries and Japan filled the questionnaire.
The key findings show that:
- The (re-)entry ban to Japan impacts 85% of European companies;
- 44% of European companies expect a loss of revenue solely due to the (re-)entry ban;
- Among all activities, project development, governance and Human Resources are mostly affected;
- 23% of the companies expect appropriate actions from the Government of Japan, such as compensation and tax relief.
For further details on the results, please read our report.
The EBC has finalised its annual document on the Japanese regulatory business environment. This year’s White Paper is called “Strengthening partnerships – in crisis and opportunity alike”. The opportunity is of course referring to the EU-Japan EPA that entered into force on 1 February 2019. Unfortunately, at the same time the COVID -19 crisis struck the world. We are, however, confident that with our recommendations, the European and Japanese economies and companies will continue to prosper.
Vicente Luna, an analyst of worldwide big data on location and mobility, shares a presentation on the demand for European cars in Japan as glimpsed from the demand for ten car Dealerships/Showrooms in Tokyo since January.
And on a positive note, he shows that luxury brands have gone up an extra 20% points since he last reported from Sendai.
We wish you a good reading and hope you stay positive and healthy during this difficult time.
