EBC ニュースレター 2021年1月20日

From the EBC

Dear Friends of the EBC,

Upcoming this week are the following webinars:

The first one will introduce the newly Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), a new trade agreement that will shape global economics. Companies located in the RCEP-region can leverage this FTA and benefit from the preferential market access provided. You will learn how our experts on the ground evaluate the key achievements and limitations of the RCEP. They will also discuss the impact the trade deal will likely have on supply chains and trade volumes across Asia.

The second webinar will discuss synergies between the role of Responsible Business Conduct (RBC) and international labour standards in building resilience in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and efforts to implement the Trade and Sustainable Development chapter of the EU-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement.

In conclusion, we give you an overview of our EBC Railways Committee’s work. Despite the difficult situation, it remained active in 2020, talking and meeting with officials at the nation’s railway operators. The committee’s advocacy efforts are focused on a set of longstanding issues that include calling for common technical standards and mutual recognition for approval and certification.

If your company is interested in a membership, you are most welcome to contact the EBC!

We hope you stay positive and healthy during this difficult time.

EBC Chief Operating Officer

Webinar on The role of Responsible Business Conduct in building resilience – 21 January, 16:00 – 18:00

A high level virtual event on The role of Responsible Business Conduct in building resilience will discuss synergies between the role of Responsible Business Conduct (RBC) and international labour standards in building resilience in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and efforts to implement the Trade and Sustainable Development chapter of the EU-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement.

It will bring together Japanese government officials, representatives of the EU, the business community, workers, civil society and key experts to discuss practical actions with a view to driving both agendas forward.

The event is also closely linked to the EU-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement, and in particular to the provisions linking trade, investment and sustainable development. It thus represents a concrete deliverable towards the 2nd meeting of the Trade and Sustainable Development Committee that will take place later in January.

EBC Sponsorships Scheme

As you know, the EBC has been going through major changes since the beginning of the year, such as governance, management or communication.

The latest change is a simplification of our Sponsorships scheme.

Until now, when you chose to support the EBC, you were able to sponsor an event or our annual White Paper.

From 2021, you will have the opportunity to select among 6 categories of sponsorships. Depending on the category, the Sponsor will get:

  • Free Membership to the EBC and participation to all EBC sectoral committees;
  • His logo on the EBC website (homepage and/or dedicated sponsors’ web page);
  • His logo/name in the EBC White Paper;
  • His company banner/information material/keynote speaker at the EBC Briefings;
  • His company name listed in EuroBiz Japan (EBC monthly magazine).

If you are interested in supporting the EBC, please have a look at the new Sponsorships Scheme and contact us at: [email protected] for further details!

EBC White Paper

The EBC published its annual document on the Japanese regulatory business environment last July.

This year’s White Paper is called “Strengthening partnerships – in crisis and opportunity alike” . The opportunity is of course referring to the EU-Japan EPA that entered into force on February 1, 2019. Unfortunately, at the same time the COVID -19 crisis struck the world.

We are, however, confident that with our recommendations, the European and Japanese economies and companies will continue to prosper.
