From the EBC

Dear Friends of the EBC,

We have been advocating for several weeks now against the re-entry ban in Japan imposed on most non-Japanese nationals.

We are planning further actions, but we need data to support our requests. Therefore, we launched a survey that has been disseminated by EU national Chambers of Commerce to their members. In case you are a European company which is not a member of an EU national Chamber, you can fill out this survey (see details below).

The more companies take part in the survey, the more representative the results become. We hope for your cooperation and support!

We also give you the opportunity to answer a JETRO survey (until July 3rd). JETRO would like to better understand the difficulties foreign businesses might have today, with the objective to further strengthen support to these companies.

Vicente J. Luna, an analyst of worldwide big data on location and mobility, shares a presentation on the current COVID-19 economic situation in Japan.

We wish you a good reading and hope you stay positive and healthy during this difficult time.

The survey is accessible through this link from Monday June 29 to Wednesday July 8.

We would like to thank the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Japan for allowing us to replicate the questions used in their survey conducted among German companies at the beginning of June 2020.

Webinar on “COVID-19 and
Digitalization of Society

Digitalisation will play a central role in recovering from the crisis wrought by COVID-19. Already during the crisis, digital solutions, including enabling people to work and learn remotely, helped reduce the adverse impact of the pandemic and helped many businesses stay open. COVID-19 has shown that digital technologies are essential to the functioning of today’s global economy and underline their transformational potential. But digital technologies are also generating new policy issues. Policy makers in Japan and the EU need to ensure that the infrastructure, the connectivity and the regulations are in place to respond to the coronavirus and to keep people active and safe online. In this webinar, European and Japanese experts will share views about the role of digitalisation for the recovery and how they can contribute to a green recovery by addressing topics such as data governance and privacy, digital innovation or the interoperability of digital services between the EU and Japan.

Date: Thursday, July 2, 2020, 4:30pm-6:00pm

White Paper Sponsorships

The European Business Council in Japan specializes in Japanese government relations and public affairs. Among our various services, the EBC White Paper is by far the most important document that we annually produce.

The White Paper is read by not only Japanese authorities, but also by the various European embassies and the EU Delegation. Its recommendations to the Japanese government in 25 economic sectors are a useful tool for European businesses to advocate on various problems they encounter on – or to access to – the Japanese market.

We are therefore hoping that we can get the resources that are needed to print, translate and distribute this White Paper, something that has been done now for 20 years.

We would be very glad if you could support our work on improving better economic relations between the EU and Japan through one of OUR VARIOUS SPONSORSHIP PROGRAMMES.

Thank you in advance for your precious contribution.
