The Economic Security Promotion Law and its consequences for European companies
22 June 2022

Dear Friends of the EBC,

The purpose of this in-person event is to inform and raise awareness on Japan’s Economic Security Promotion Act, enacted on 11 May 2022, and the future guidelines and implementation rules that will follow.

The legislation is composed of four areas. Two of them can be said to be promotional: resilient supply chain and reinforcement of technological base. The remaining two would be more regulatory in nature: security of critical infrastructure and secret patents.

As the Act and its regulations will impact European industry in Japan, it is vital that industry understands how it may affect them depending upon industry segment. This is true regarding both risks and opportunities.
