Dear Friends of the EBC,

Our lobbying for the foreign community against the (re-)entry ban to Japan has kept us very busy this month.

We recently read rumors about the relaxation of the conditions to (re-)enter Japan, but as of today, we are still waiting for an official confirmation and for further details. Bjorn Kongstad, the EBC Chief Policy Director, wrote a short overview on the articles that have recently been published on this issue.

On August 20, an EBC Briefing on our 2020 White Paper, “Strengthening Partnerships, in crisis and opportunity alike” was held online and focused on 4 EBC Committees : HR, Airlines, Liquor and Legal Services. If you were not able to attend, please read this summary.

We will continue our high level meetings and are looking forward to a positive outcome regarding the (re-)entry ban.

On August 20, an EBC briefing was held on the newly published Report on the Japanese business environment, aka the White Paper, called Strengthening partnerships – in crisis and opportunities alike.

News articles on lifting the (re-)entry ban to Japan

 
By now, you should have seen and read the articles indicating that the Japanese Government will lift the ban on (re-)entering Japan for non-Japanese residents in September. The first article that spoke about this was an NHK article published early in the morning on Friday August 21. While it took a while for other independent articles to appear, there are now a number of articles in both English and Japanese.
