From the EBC

Dear Friends of the EBC,

November is a busy month for the EBC team!

On 3 November, the EBC met with Céline Pajon, Research Fellow and Head of Japan Research at the French Institute of International Relations in Paris, an influential think tank in Europe. We talked about economic relations between Japan and Europe, non-tariff barrier issues on the Japanese market, the EBC Defence & Security committee’s priorities, the current geopolitical situation in Asia and about Ms. Pajon’s latest publication on “France’s Indo-Pacific strategy: From a balancing power to a constructive player”.

On 7 November in Brussels, the EBC participated in the 25th annual EU-Japan Business Round Table. After the Handover of the BRT’s Recommendations to Věra Jourová, Vice President of the European Commission for Values and Transparency, Michael Mroczek, President of the EBC Board and co-Chair of Working Party 1 (Trade Relations; Investment & Regulatory Cooperation; Financial Services, Accounting & Taxation) presented its Report. After the four Working Party reports and the Joint Session with the EU & Japanese Authorities, four themed discussions took place on: Economic Security & Supply Chains, Green Transition, Standardisation & regulatory harmonisation, R&D and skills, and Digital & AI. The meeting ended with speeches by Ambassadors Yasushi Masaki and Jean-Eric Paquet. It was a wonderful opportunity to meet high-level participants.

On 16 November in Tokyo, we have a few seats left for our hybrid Digital Automotive Summit  organised by the EBC Automotive Components and Aftermarket Committee, supported by AHK Japan, the Delegation of the EU to Japan and the EU-Japan Centre for Industrial Cooperation. This event will bring together industry, policy, and advocacy leaders of the Japanese and European Automotive Industry.

On 21 November, the Sustainability Committees of the EBC and the JBCE (Japan Business Council in Europe) will co-organise an online collaborative event on Sustainable & Responsible Supply Chains – Challenges and Solutions for European and Japanese companies. Attention, this event is limited to representatives of member companies of the JBCE, EBC, Japanese and European chambers of commerce, as well as representatives from Japanese and European embassies.

Finally, I would like to recommend a seminar introducing business opportunities in Osaka,  with the objective to attract investment and companies in the region (15 November, in Tokyo). It will be co-hosted by Governor Yoshimura (Osaka Prefecture) and Governor Saito (Hyogo Prefecture). Please note that this seminar will be in Japanese only.

The EBC team is looking forward to hearing from you soon!
