EBC Newsletter – March 8, 2023

From the EBC

Dear Friends of the EBC,

On 28 February, two committees of the EBC met with Director General Henrik Hololei of DG MOVE (EU Commission), who was in Japan for the High Level Transport Dialogue between the EU and Japan. The Railways and the Logistics & Freight Committees had the chance to present their main issues: the Railways Committee focused on the public procurement market and the lack of common standards, assessments and certifications in Japan. The Logistics & Freight Committee brought up market dominance, market access issues and inefficiencies in the logistics sector.

On 1st March, ahead of the Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEI) Japan exhibition, the EBC Defence & Security Committee discussed with EU Ambassador Paquet . The purpose of the meeting was to convey the issues and the activities of the committee with a special focus on defence. As the situation in the world has changed, and as Japan recently increased its defence budget, the committee sees opportunities for the European defence industry in Japan. This is, however, only possible if the cooperation with Japanese industry is improved. The EU Ambassador spoke about the changes to the EU Commission policy in regards to defence and about the signals that Japan is looking to diversify its partners for defence material procurement.

Today, I would like to share with you two events organised by the EBC and close partners:

We are looking forward to seeing you soon at one of these events!
